Company History:
Somerset Oil and Refinery is one of the oldest continuously operating companies in Pulaski County, Somerset, Kentucky.

Although the company has supplied gasoline, diesel, heating oil and other crude oil products since 1932, its roots may be traced to 1898 when Captain Geary supervised the construction of a crude oil pipeline from Monticello, Kentucky to Somerset, Kentucky and on to Hamlin, West Virginia. A few years later, Cumberland Pipeline Company purchased this system which thrived until a shortage of crude oil forced operations to cease in 1928.

In 1931, a corporation headed by R.C. Snyder purchased the pipeline system and soon began construction of the Somerset Refinery. Throughout the years the pipeline system has changed to the South Kentucky Purchasing Co., Inc. SKP purchases crude oil for processing at the refinery.

Refining Crude Oil:
The refinery purchases crude oil from wells in Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia to produce three grades of gasoline (87, 89, and 91 octane), Kerosene, Diesel, No. 2 Fuel Oil, and heavier commercial fuels like No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 oil - our Diesel 52 cetane is the highest on the Market. The refinery is also a blender of "off specification" oils and can recycle contaminated fuel products.

Subsidiaries:
The refinery changed hands in 1946, 1963, and in 1999. Today, Somerset Oil, Inc. is a privately owned parent company of a corporate group that encompasses the procurement of crude oil (South Kentucky Purchasing, Inc.), crude oil refining (Somerset Refinery, Inc.), wholesale, commercial and retail marketing (Sales and Transportation), and environmental services both in the field and laboratory (Somerset Environmental Services, Inc.).

We are a fully integrated refinery dedicated to meeting customer needs. Our full service gas stations represent the quality and personal service associated with Somerset Oil.

Transportation:
Somerset Oil is in a unique geographic position to market gasoline. Located in the middle of a distribution circle of 5 major terminals, we have the advantage of buying product after delivery. Louisville, Lexington, Catlettsburg, Knoxville and Nashville terminals allow us to pick the lowest combination of freight and product cost to keep Somerset a top competitor at all times. Our fleet of thirty-five transports distribute finished product in eleven different states.

Environmental Services:
We also provide a full range of environmental services such as remediation, auditing, laboratory, waste disposal, vacuum truck and technical investigations. We are staffed with Kentucky Fire Marshall certified installation and removal contractors as well as geologists and other technically trained personnel. We stand ready to meet the environmental needs of not only Somerset Oil and its customers, but of the industry at large.
